What is Evolution?

The term "evolution" is derived from the Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed, both in science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species evolved into new species in a planned manner. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist student who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that existing species evolve into new species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process by which living organisms develop traits that increase their chances of surviving or conceiving offspring. Over time, genetic variability can cause a population to develop new physical traits or biological functions. This change in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it drives most evolutionary changes. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the increase in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise can't be considered to be examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies Creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in school. OECs are less well known however they are as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is an untruth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible, because it would require miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought shunned miracles out of fear they would lose their credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their position "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of the created species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows these to change over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species that are similar to the original.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the original species were created simultaneously, and that they grew gradually afterward. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis and claim that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional associations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula.
What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. The next goal is to eliminate the finch-research of Darwin's famed and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in evolution. The causes are not clear, but could include religion or the absence of creation scientists in the country.
The KACR has achieved a lot through its lectures and seminars in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences that has a creationist viewpoint, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university and it is taught until today.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering talks on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
